MUMBAI, India, Sept. 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411016559 A) filed by Havells India Ltd., Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on March 7, 2024, for 'system and method for secure onboarding of devices.'
Inventor(s) include Sameer Chouksey; Tanay Chaudhari; and Perumal Raj Sivarajan.
The application for the patent was published on Sept. 26, under issue no. 39/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "In accordance with an aspect of the present invention, a method for secure onboarding of short-range wireless device is provided. The method includes, the short-range wireless device and a cloud to authenticate each other and share a symmetric key. The method further includes a user equipment to relay the data from the short-range wireless device to the cloud, in view of inability of the device to connect to external networks. The cloud upon authentication links the symmetric key with user profile of an application in the user equipment and Device ID of the short-range wireless device. Subsequently, the application and device generate session keys for each subsequent communication, preventing other application in the user equipment to communicate with the device."
