MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611049998 A) filed by G. L. Bajaj Institute Of Technology And Management, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on April 20, for 'system and method for room-based ride sharing with distance-based fare splitting.'

Inventor(s) include Vishakha; and Aradhna Saini.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a system and method for facilitating ride-sharing using a room-based pooling mechanism integrated with a prepaid wallet and a distance-based fare allocation model. The system comprises a digital platform that enables users to create or join ride groups based on predefined travel parameters and coordinate journey details through an in-application communication interface. A joining fee is deducted from a prepaid wallet to ensure participation commitment. Upon confirmation, a driver is assigned to the group, and the journey is tracked using geolocation technologies to record individual travel segments. A fare computation engine calculates the total trip cost and allocates charges proportionally to each user based on the actual distance traveled. The respective fare amounts are automatically deducted from user wallets and credited to the driver. The invention provides enhanced transparency, fairness, and efficiency in ride-sharing by ensuring accurate billing, seamless payment processing, and collaborative ride coordination."
