MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311087736 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 21, 2023, for 'system and method for processing image frames.'

Inventor(s) include Namitha Bhat Kundapura; Madhukesh Manevarthe; and Jurgen Schmidt.

The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A system (100) and method (600) for processing image frames involves, at image processing module (106): obtaining (602) image frames comprising RGB color model and IR color model from image sensor (102); determining (604) regions of each image frame having the RGB color model and the IR color model, and extracting corresponding RoI respectively; and computing (606) spatial averages for the RoIs associated with each of the RGB and IR color models. Weights to distinct colors in each of the RGB and IR color models are assigned by taking into consideration the corresponding spatial averages. IR color model is considered as the dominant color model, and RGB color model as the recessive color model, and when the spatial average for the IR color model instantly rises or drops, confirming (608) if the spatial average for the RoI associated with the recessive color model is continuous."
