MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641049665 A) filed by Anurag University, Hyderabad, Telangana, on April 18, for 'system and method for preparation and transdermal niosomal gel composition of saxagliptin for dual therapy.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Padmanabha Rao Amarachinta; and Dr. Vasudha Bakshi.

The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical transdermal niosomal gel composition system (100) for dual therapeutic delivery of saxagliptin. The system (100) comprises a saxagliptin active pharmaceutical component (101), a niosomal vesicle forming phase (102) comprising at least one non-ionic surfactant and cholesterol, an aqueous hydration medium (103), a size reduction module (104), a pharmaceutically acceptable gel base matrix (105), a permeation enhancement interface (106), and a stability retention matrix (107). The system (100) is configured to enhance skin permeation, improve systemic bioavailability, and provide sustained release of saxagliptin. The optimized formulation further exhibits dual therapeutic efficacy comprising antidiabetic activity through DPP-4 inhibition and antiproliferative activity against selected cancer cell lines. The formulation demonstrates nanometric vesicle size, improved ex-vivo permeation, acceptable physicochemical stability, and minimal local irritation."
