MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541123045 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'system and method for predicting mental health outcomes using artificial neural networks.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Faraz Ahmad; Ms. Nirabhi Srivastava; Ms. Shreya Damotharan; and Ms. Shriya Jois.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a computer-implemented method for predicting mental health outcomes. The method includes collecting psychological assessment data via DASS-21 questionnaire (100) from subjects, wherein DASS-21 measures depression, anxiety, and stress levels; gathering cognitive and behavioral factor data (102) from subjects; scoring and preprocessing the collected data (104) to generate normalized input variables; configuring an artificial neural network with NTanH activation function (108) to process the normalized input variables; training the artificial neural network (112) on a training dataset to establish predictive relationships between cognitive and behavioral factors and mental health outcomes; validating model performance (114) using holdback validation on a separate validation dataset; and generating DASS-21 score predictions (116) for mental health assessment based on input data processed through the trained neural network."
