MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611007121 A) filed by Batx Energies Private Limited, Gurugram, Haryana, on Jan. 24, for 'system and method for pre-treating lithium-ion battery black mass to remove impurities.'

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A system (102) for pre-treating lithium-ion battery black mass is provided. The system (102) includes a feeder (104) configured to supply untreated black mass to a rotary kiln reactor (106). The rotary kiln reactor (106) includes an inlet for receiving black mass, an outlet for discharging treated material, a rotating shell, and heating elements configured to maintain a predetermined temperature. An acid dosing unit (108) injects sulfuric acid vapor into the rotary kiln reactor (106). A nitrogen purge unit (118) supplies nitrogen gas to maintain an inert atmosphere and transport gaseous products. An off-gas treatment unit (110) is connected to the rotary kiln reactor (106) and includes a cyclone separator (112), a condenser (114), and a scrubber tower (116) for sequential removal of particulate matter, volatile organic compounds, and hydrogen fluoride. A control unit (120) monitors and regulates temperature, pressure, and flow conditions throughout the system (102)."
