A server maintains an occupancy state for each defined location, the occupancy state being one of vacant state, occupied state, billed state, and paid state. The server receives presence data from the proximity sensor indicating detection or absence of user presence, transitions the occupancy state based on received presence data and operational events, and transmits control commands to configure the status indicator to display visual indication corresponding to current occupancy state. The server automatically transitions occupancy state from paid state to vacant state when the proximity sensor reports absence of user presence for predetermined vacancy threshold period after payment confirmation."
