MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311087727 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 21, 2023, for 'system and method for object presence detection.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a system 202 and a method 500 for object presence detection, for example, a child in a vehicle. The method 500 includes receiving 502 an image from an image sensor associated with the system 202 and detecting 504 an object of interest in the image to generate 506 a bounding box around the object of interest using an object localization technique. The method 500 includes determining 508 a position of the bounding box within the image and receiving 510 a plurality of sequential image frames from the image sensor for detecting 512 motions of the object of interest within the bounding box in the plurality of received sequential image frames. Further, the method 500 includes estimating 514 a presence of an object based on the detected motions within the bounding box."
