MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641061990 A) filed by Sri Krishna College Of Engineering And Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on May 15, for 'system and method for news text summarization using nlp, machine learning, and fuzzy logic.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Reshma V K; Gurucharan M; Adhithya Dhayanithi J; Badhmasharan S; and Dayanand K.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "System and Method for News Text Summarization Using NLP, Machine Learning and Fuzzy Logic Abstract The present invention discloses a system and method (100) for automatic text summarization using Natural Language Processing (NLP), machine learning, and fuzzy logic-based inference. An input text document (102) is processed through a preprocessing module (104) comprising text cleaning (106), tokenization (108), stop-word removal (110), and stemming or lemmatization (112). A feature extraction unit (114) computes linguistic and statistical features including TF-IDF, sentence position, and similarity measures. These features are evaluated using a machine learning classifier (116), preferably a Random Forest model, to predict sentence importance. The predicted scores are refined using a fuzzy logic inference module (118) incorporating membership functions (120) and a fuzzy rule base (122). A sentence ranking and selection unit (124) selects top-ranked sentences to generate a summary output (126). A trained dataset (128) supports model training. The invention provides improved accuracy, interpretability, and computational efficiency."
