MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521111148 A) filed by Symbiosis International, Pune, Maharashtra, on Nov. 13, 2025, for 'system and method for multimodal driver performance evaluation using artificial intelligence.'

Inventor(s) include Gunjan Singh; Dr. Sachin Gaikwad; Dr. Archana Y. Chaudhari; and Digambar Raut.

The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A computer-implemented system for multimodal driver performance and skill evaluation using artificial intelligence is disclosed. The system includes a processor and memory storing executable instructions. A data acquisition module collects dashcam video, OBD2 telemetry (engine parameters), mobile sensor data (GPS, accelerometer), and brake inputs with timestamp synchronization. A synchronization module temporally aligns multimodal data to correlate visual cues and vehicle dynamics. An object detection module employs a Detection Transformer trained on Indian driving scenarios to detect vehicles, pedestrians, signs, and obstacles. A driver attention module analyzes facial landmarks to compute Eye Aspect Ratio, Gaze Score, Percentage of Eye Closure, and head pose angles for distraction and drowsiness detection. A vehicle behaviour module extracts features such as hard braking, acceleration, sharp turns, lane keeping, and rule violations. A performance evaluation module computes skill scores against expert benchmarks, enabling real-time, AI-driven driver assessment through synchronized multimodal processing."
