MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511117465 A) filed by Graphic Era, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on Nov. 26, 2025, for 'system and method for micro-turbine based energy recovery from spillway flows.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Sanjeev Kumar; and Shikhar Shashank.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to energy recovery systems and, more particularly, to an apparatus for harnessing energy from spillway flows. The disclosed system comprises a spillway structure (1) with a primary water discharge path and an integrated flow-guidance mechanism (2) including elements such as a baffle, side channel, or step modification to divert water toward a turbine location. A modular micro-turbine module (3) featuring a turbine hub and blades converts the kinetic and potential energy of the diverted water into rotational mechanical energy. A transmission assembly (4) couples the micro-turbine module to a generator assembly (5) equipped with a rotor and stator for electrical energy generation. A power conditioning unit (6) processes this energy into grid-compatible AC, while a monitoring and control system (7) with a sensor network ensures optimal operation of the apparatus."
