MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531116219 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology, Rourkela, Orissa, on Nov. 24, 2025, for 'system and method for hybrid renewable microgrid control and optimized energy management.'

Inventor(s) include Roy, Dr. Krishna; Biswal, Ms. Ananya Pritilagna; and Ghosh, Dr. Arnab.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a standalone hybrid renewable energy microgrid system (100) and method (200) comprising multiple renewable energy sources, such as photovoltaic, biomass, and pico-hydro, interconnected through respective DC-DC power converters to a common DC bus. A dual-loop control unit regulates DC bus voltage using an outer Tilt-Integral-Derivative Fractional-Order Proportional-Integral with Sliding Mode Control (TID-FOPI-SMC) and an inner Model Predictive Control (MPC) for robust stabilization and fast transient response. An energy management system determines operating modes surplus, balanced, and lacking power to coordinate power sharing and battery charging or discharging. Controller parameters are optimized using a hybrid metaheuristic algorithm combining a Sine-Cosine Algorithm and Pattern Search technique for precise tuning. The present invention provides efficient energy utilization, reduced battery cycling, and applicable in remote standalone power systems, rural electrification, renewable-based smart grids, and off-grid industrial applications."
