MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541099856 A) filed by Umesh Nagalotimath, Hubballi, Karnataka, on Oct. 15, 2025, for 'system and method for guided tracheostomy tube placement using obturator with flexible endoscope.'
Inventor(s) include Umesh Nagalotimath.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Embodiments herein provide a tracheostomy obturator assembly comprising a hollow obturator body configured to accommodate a flexible endoscope within its interior channel, and a securing clip mechanism for maintaining the endoscope in fixed position relative to the obturator. The obturator is designed to be inserted into a tracheostomy tube during placement or replacement procedures, providing real-time visual guidance of the tracheal lumen. The integrated flexible endoscope enables direct visualization of the airway during tube insertion, preventing false passage formation and allowing immediate detection of pathological conditions including granulations, stenosis, or anatomical abnormalities. The securing clip allows adjustment of endoscope length while maintaining stable positioning. This invention addresses critical safety concerns in tracheostomy procedures by eliminating blind insertion techniques, reducing complications such as bleeding, airway loss, and patient mortality, while providing enhanced diagnostic capabilities for assessing tracheal pathology and stoma integrity."
