MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521130649 A) filed by Symbiosis International, Pune, Maharashtra, on Dec. 23, 2025, for 'system and method for gesture recognition using inertial measurement unit sensor data on edge devices.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Shreyas Rajendra Hole.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A computer-implemented system for gesture recognition using inertial measurement unit sensor data on edge devices is disclosed. The system comprises a memory, a processor coupled to the memory, and a set of modules including a data collection module, a preprocessing module, a feature extraction module, a temporal modeling module, a classification module, an optimization module, and a deployment module. The data collection module collects time-series sensor data comprising tri-axial accelerometer and gyroscope readings capturing digit gesture traces. The preprocessing module generates normalized segmented windows through normalization, segmentation into fixed-length windows of 128 time steps, and data augmentation. The feature extraction module applies one-dimensional convolutional operations to extract local temporal features. The temporal modeling module employs Long Short-Term Memory networks to model sequential dependencies and generate temporal representations. The classification module generates digit predictions with confidence scores."
