MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541116368 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Palakkad, Kerala, on Nov. 24, 2025, for 'system and method for generating slicing data for directed energy deposition additive manufacturing.'

Inventor(s) include Vicharapu, Buchibabu; and Mohammad, Shabbar.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A system (100) and a method (600) for generating slicing data (112) for wire based directed energy deposition additive manufacturing includes an input interface (108) to receive a computer-aided design model, process parameters, and material properties, a memory (106) storing a physics-based layer-geometry model, and a processor (104) configured to execute the model. The processor (104) determines a melt pool cross-sectional area by combining deposition and penetration contributions while accounting for capillary forces and gravitational effects, predicts a stabilized layer height for multi-layer deposition together with the process parameters and the material properties, and generates the slicing data (112) for the computer-aided design model using the stabilized layer height in preference to bead-on-plate layer dimensions. The slicing data (112) may additionally encode torch height adjustments and be transmitted to a toolpath planning module (110) for generation of machine-executable instructions."
