MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311085597 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 14, 2023, for 'system and method for ego lane estimation using lane level navigation.'

Inventor(s) include Trishna Patil; Subramanya Prakash; and Bharath Bhat.

The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a system and method for ego lane estimation through lane level navigation. It involves firstly obtaining, at blocks 402 and 404, control update based on change in number of lanes and lane change, and then performing, at blocks 406, 408, and 410, measurement update based on distance to border, moving objects, and lane markings. At block 412, result is fed to Bayes filter and then, at block 414, ego-lane ID is calculated. At block 416, lane with the highest probability is considered as the final lane index. However, in case of wrong map data or sensor-map data mismatch, lane ID is obtained through LLN module 110, at block 420, which provides an abstract lane ID, whose consistency is checked by validating it against change in lane, lane change, and distance to border. If lane index is consistent, corresponding lane is produced as the final output/ ego-lane."
