MUMBAI, India, July 11 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541010885 A) filed by Institute Of Information Technology, Hyderabad, India, on Feb. 10, for 'system and method for detecting exercise poses and counting repetitions based on joint angles.'
Inventor(s) include Charu Sharma; Kunal Kamal Kishor Bhosikar; Mahika Jain; and Vanshita Mahajan.
The application for the patent was published on July 11, under issue no. 28/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A system for detecting exercise poses and counting repetitions based on joint anglesis provided. The system 100 includes user device 102 associated with user, network 104, and an exercise tracking server 106.When the user begins exercising, user device 102 capturemedia content of user through imaging device. The exercise tracking server 106(i) receives media content through network 104, (ii)detects key points by analyzing frames; (iii) computes angles between relevant jointsusing (x, y) coordinates of key points; (iv) detectsexercise pose by comparing computed angles with first pre-defined angle thresholds; (v) counts repetition by tracking changes in angles and increasing repetition count based on repetition counting logic and second pre-defined angle thresholds; (vi) overlaysdetected keypoints, computed angles, current repetition count, and identified exercise name onto the frames of media content and sends the media content with visualinformation to user device to display."
