MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311085594 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 14, 2023, for 'system and method for detecting broadening and narrowing of road segments based on connectivity in between.'
Inventor(s) include Trishna Patil; and Subramanya Prakash.
The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a system and method for detection of broadening/narrowing of a road segment, either from its left or from its right. At 402, the system acquires real time lane profile of current and previous road segments, and at 404, determines a change in number of lanes and types of lanes. For determining the change in number of lanes, the emergency lanes are avoided. If there is a change in the number of lanes, then it is evident that a number of lanes are either added or removed. Thereafter, at 406, the system further checks connectivity between both the segments, and determine if the lane added/removed is from left or right. Further, the system determines the connectivity between the previous and current segment, based on first and last predecessor associated with each lane of the current road segment."
