MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541075166 A) filed by Ashok Leyland Limited, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Aug. 7, 2025, for 'system and method for detecting alcohol level of occupants in a vehicle.'
Inventor(s) include Senthilraja V; Dr. Vijay Bhooshan Kumar; Ravishankar D; Balakrishnan D; Srinivasan P; and Mohanaprakash Jaganathan.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A system (100) for detecting alcohol level of occupant(s) of a vehicle, comprising a plurality of alcohol sensors (101) to detect an alcohol level in the breath of the occupant(s), a microcontroller (102) coupled to the alcohol sensors (101) to compare the detected alcohol level with a pre-set alcohol level, an ignition system (103) and a time delay switch (104). When the microcontroller (102) determines that the detected alcohol level exceeds the pre-set alcohol level, the microcontroller (102) controls the ignition system (103) to prevent the vehicle from starting when the vehicle is in off-condition, and to immobilize the vehicle when the vehicle is in on-condition or running condition."
