MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541132526 A) filed by Thiagarajar College Of Engineering, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 27, 2025, for 'system and method for desalinating brackish water.'

Inventor(s) include D. Suriya Kumari; Dr. P. S. Manoharan; R. Priyadarshini; Dr. P. M. Devie; and Dr. L. Ashok Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a hybrid renewable energy powered brackish water reverse osmosis (BWRO) desalination system (100) and method thereof. The system (100) comprises a pre-treatment unit (104) for receiving brackish feed water (102), a booster pump (105), and a reverse osmosis unit (106) including a pump (108) and at least one RO membrane module (110) configured to generate a permeate stream (112) and a brine reject stream (114). An energy recovery device (116) coupled to the brine reject stream (114) to reduce net power consumption, and a recirculation loop (118) selectively returns a portion of the brine to the pre-treatment unit (104). The system (100) is powered by a hybrid renewable energy source (124) including a photovoltaic array (126), wind turbine (128), energy storage unit (130), and a diesel generator (144), coordinated by a control and monitoring unit (134) executing MCDA-based optimization."
