MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541126610 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 14, 2025, for 'system and method for coastal flood risk prediction using machine learning.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. J Jayashree; Himank Gupta; Navya Jain; and Shreya Prasad.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a system for coastal flood risk prediction that includes a data input module configured to receive environmental parameters including rainfall intensity, atmospheric pressure, wind speed, tidal level, and cyclone presence indicators for a coastal region. The system includes a machine learning prediction engine having a trained classifier configured to analyze the environmental parameters and generate flood risk classifications selected from low risk, moderate risk, and severe risk categories. The system further includes a user interface module configured to display the flood risk classifications. The data input module receives environmental data through input fields, and the machine learning prediction engine processes the data through a preprocessing module that validates and normalizes the parameters. The trained classifier processes the preprocessed environmental parameters through ensemble learning algorithms to generate predictions decoded into flood risk categories and presented through the user interface module."
