MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641017064 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 16, for 'system and method for biometric authentication.'
Inventor(s) include Shridevi S; E M Krishnan; Chandrakala K; and Disha M.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure discloses a system (102) and a method (200) for biometric authentication. The system (100) includes a data acquisition unit (102) configured to acquire electroencephalography signals and functional near-infrared spectroscopy signals from a user. A processor (104) having a memory (106) executes instructions to process the acquired signals. An EEG processing unit (104-1) receives and preprocesses the electroencephalography signals to remove physiological and non-physiological artefacts and extracts time-frequency features. An fNIRS processing unit (104-2) preprocesses the functional near-infrared spectroscopy signals to obtain conditioned hemodynamic signals and extracts hemodynamic features. An emotion recognition unit (104-3) classifies emotional states based on extracted electroencephalography features. A cognitive assessment unit (104-4) processes fused electroencephalography and functional near-infrared spectroscopy features acquired during a predefined cognitive task to generate a cognitive-behavioural signature. A fusion unit (104-5) generates unified biometric feature representation, and an authentication decision unit (104-6) produces a biometric authentication output."
