MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641047985 A) filed by Vels Institute Of Science, Technology And Advanced Studies, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on April 15, for 'system and method for automated cashew nut grading using hybrid image processing and deep learning.'

Inventor(s) include S. Muthukumaran; S. Murali; B. Kamatchy; and N. Kalaichelvi.

The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A system (100) and method (300) for automated grading of cashew nuts are disclosed. The system (100) comprises a data acquisition module (101) configured to receive input image data from an imaging device (108), and a data storage module (102) for storing the input and processed data. A pre-processing module (103) conditions the input image data to generate standardized image data. A data optimization module (104) performs feature-preserving transformation of the standardized image data using a hybrid combination of Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT), and Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) to generate optimized image data. The optimized image data is further enhanced by an image enhancement module (105) to improve feature visibility. A classification module (106) processes the enhanced image data using a deep learning-based model to generate output classification data corresponding to predefined grading categories. An evaluation module (107) assesses classification performance."
