MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521111149 A) filed by Symbiosis International, Pune, Maharashtra, on Nov. 13, 2025, for 'system and method for assessing bdd risk based on social media consumption patterns.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Sheela Upendra; and Ms. Betsy Sara Zacharias.

The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a computer-implemented system and method for assessing the risk of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) based on social media consumption patterns among young adults. The system comprises a data acquisition module configured to receive user demographic and behavioural information; a scoring engine that computes beauty and fitness media influence scores; and a psychometric module that generates a standardized BDD score. A correlation processor analyses the relationship between media exposure and psychological indicators, while a classification engine categorizes users into low, moderate, or high-risk levels. The system further provides an interactive digital dashboard offering preventive recommendations and referral guidance. The novelty lies in integrating behavioural analytics with psychometric evaluation through adaptive computational models to produce a personalized and data-driven BDD risk assessment. This framework enables early detection, preventive intervention, and population-level monitoring of appearance-related psychological vulnerabilities in the digital era."
