MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511133682 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, on Dec. 30, 2025, for 'system and method for assessing a correspondence between a wound and a selected weapon.'

Inventor(s) include Kumar, Deepesh; and Srivastava, Akanksha.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a system (102) and method (500) for assessing a correspondence between a wound and a selected weapon (202). The system (102) comprises one or more modules, such as, by a data reception module (116) receives a 3D wound topology (208) defining a geometry of a wound cavity (206) and a weapon dataset comprising a 3D weapon topology (212). By an extraction module (118) the system extracts a geometric contact profile (304) representing an impact-producing surface of the selected weapon (202). A comparison module (122) spatially aligns the geometric contact profile (304) onto the 3D wound topology (208) to generate a multi-dimensional structural conformity metric comprising geometric, volumetric, and penetration-based parameters. A determination module (120) determined a composite similarity score by evaluating the metric against a validation logic. A reporting module (124) generates a forensic analysis report comprising a visual correspondence map and a correspondence verdict."
