MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541090912 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Sept. 23, 2025, for 'system and method for ai-integrated latching controlled wave energy conversion using eddy braking mechanism.'

Inventor(s) include Vijay K G; Appandairaj R; and Kishore Raj K S.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention provides a modular wave energy converter (WEC) system and method for maximizing power extraction. The system comprises a wave energy converting unit, an AI module and an eddy braking control unit as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The wave energy converting unit includes a buoy (1) having one or more sensors, bearings (2), guide rails (3), connecting rod (4), soft metal plate (5), power take-off mechanism (9), base holder plate (7) and supporting frame (10) with reflective seawall (12).The AI module is trained with simulation and experimental datasets to predict one or more latching control parameters for phase synchronization between buoy and wave excitation. The eddy braking control unit comprises electromagnets (6), eddy braking control assembly (8) and microcontroller (11) to apply variable control signals in a frictionless manner. Thus, the system improves energy capture, enables real-time adaptive control, and ensures frictionless operation."
