MUMBAI, India, Sept. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517080356 A) filed by Dsm Ip Assets B. V., Maastricht, Netherlands, on Aug. 25, for 'synthesis of dimethylphenol or trimethylphenol from 2,5-dimethylfuran using a platinum catalyst.'

Inventor(s) include Baldinger, Thomas; Bonrath, Werner; Goetzinger, Alissa; Kuenzi, Rolf; Letinois, Ulla; and Schuetz, Jan.

The application for the patent was published on Sept. 12, under issue no. 37/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to the manufacturing of dimethylphenols, particularly 2,5-dimethylphenol, respectively trimethylphenols, particularly 2,3,6-trimethylphenol, from 2,5-dimethylfuran and acetylene, respectively propyne, particularly in MAP gas, in the presence of a platinum catalyst. This invention offers a sustainable synthesis of -tocopherols, respectively a-tocopherols."

The patent application was internationally filed on Mar. 01, 2024, under International application No.PCT/EP2024/055425.
