The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention discloses a novel herbal root canal irrigating solution comprising synergistic methanolic extracts of Acacia nilotica and Mimusops elengi. Conventional irrigants such as sodium hypochlorite are effective but suffer from cytotoxicity, unpleasant taste, and risk of tissue damage. The present formulation addresses these limitations by combining two plant extracts with complementary antimicrobial properties. Extracts are prepared by incubating powdered plant material in methanol, followed by filtration and drying. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) studies confirm that the combination extract exhibits superior efficacy against Enterococcus faecalis and Streptococcus mutans, achieving inhibition at approximately 400 g/mL compared to 600-1000 g/mL for individual extracts. The solution is biocompatible, eco-friendly, and patient-acceptable, offering rapid microbial inhibition without cytotoxic effects. Pleasant taste and odor further enhance compliance. The invention thus provides a safe, effective, and sustainable herbal alternative to conventional irrigants, suitable for clinical application in root canal therapy."
