MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631029214 A) filed by Narula Institute Of Technology, Kolkata, West Bengal, on March 11, for 'swarangan (smart / digital ghungroo).'
Inventor(s) include Snigdha Das; Sinjani Sil; Aritra Poddar; Haimanti Sarkar; Dr. Shubhendu Banerjee; and Dr. Pushpita Roy.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses "SWARANGAN," a smart wearable electronic anklet designed as a digital successor to traditional ghungroos used in classical and folk dance. The device utilizes a sensor fusion module, including an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and Force-Sensitive Resistors (FSR), to digitize a dancer's movements and foot strikes in real-time. An integrated microcontroller processes these physical inputs through a high-speed digital signal processing pipeline to trigger high-fidelity ghungroo audio samples with sub-10ms latency. The system features wireless connectivity via Bluetooth for interfacing with a mobile application, allowing for sound customization, volume control, and performance analytics. By replacing heavy metallic bells with lightweight electronics, the invention reduces physical strain, enables quiet practice modes, and provides professional-grade audio output suitable for both training and stage performances."
