Abstract: SUSTAINABLE CELLULOSE NANOPARTICLE REINFORCED JAMUN SEED STARCH NANOCOMPOSITE FILMS WITH ENHANCED MECHANICAL STRENGTH AND UV BARRIER PROPERTIES Abstract A sustainable, high-performance biodegradable nanocomposite film and an optimized method for its fabrication are disclosed. The composition is formed by extracting starch from non-edible jamun (Syzygium cumini) seed waste using an alkali-assisted isolation process, serving as the primary structural biopolymer matrix. This fruit-waste matrix is reinforced by a secondary phase of highly crystalline cotton-derived cellulose nanoparticles and plasticized with glycerol. The cellulose nanoparticles are dispersed uniformly via probe ultrasonication and establish extensive intermolecular hydrogen bonding networks with the gelatinized starch matrix during a thermal solution-casting sequence. The resulting film exhibits a 110% enhancement in tensile strength, significantly reduced water vapor permeability and water solubility, increased surface hydrophobicity with high water contact angles, and exceptional shielding performance against ultraviolet radiation. The invention provides an eco-friendly packaging alternative to single-use plastics without competing with human food reserves. (Fig. 1)
