MUMBAI, India, April 20 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411075607 A) filed by Council Of Scientific And Industrial Research, New Delhi, on Oct. 3, 2024, for 'sustainable active packaging carrier and method for preparation of the same.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to the field of active packaging technology. It addresses the technical problem in routine support material or carrier used for oxygen scavenging in packaging systems, by introducing a novel solution utilizing coconut husk-based sponges impregnated with a scavenging matrix solution of natural rubber and magnesium stearate. This invention effectively removes oxygen from packaged environments, thereby extending the shelf life of products. The use of coconut husk-based sponges as carriers enhances structural integrity and sustainability. The scavenging system offers versatile applications in various industries, including food, pharmaceutical, and consumer goods packaging."
