MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641007159 A) filed by Bapatla Surendra Babu, Tenali, Andhra Pradesh, on Jan. 24, for 'stress-responsive auxetic separator scaffold for dendrite suppression in alkali-metal batteries.'
Inventor(s) include Bapatla Surendra Babu.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A passive safety separator for alkali-metal batteries is disclosed. The separator comprises a Polymer Scaffold (100) with a Re-entrant Honeycomb Microstructure (102) possessing a negative Poisson's ratio between -0.1 and -0.8. Unlike conventional separators that thin under stress, the invention contracts laterally when compressed by a dendrite tip (401). This triggers localized densification, raising the local shear modulus (G) above the critical suppression threshold. This "Densification-on-Demand" forces dendrites to flatten laterally ("mushrooming"), extending battery cycle life by 400%."
