MUMBAI, India, Oct. 11 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411020121 A) filed by Chandigarh University; and Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator, Mohali, Punjab, on March 18, 2024, for 'stair climbing assistive device for disabled persons.'

Inventor(s) include Deepak Kala.

The application for the patent was published on Oct. 10, under issue no. 41/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A stair climbing assistive device for disabled persons, comprises of multiple extendable cuboidal bodies, each developed to be positioned over a step of a stair by means of multiple suction cups 2, a plate 7 enabling a disabled user to accommodate as per requirement, a weight sensor for detecting presence of the user on one of the plate 7, a suction unit for generating a negative pressure to secure feet of the user over the plate 7, an imaging unit 4 for detecting height of the riser, a pair of hydraulically operated rods 6 to extend for positioning the plate 7 in alignment with the successive bodies, an ultrasonic to detect dimension of step of the stair along with dimension of the user's waist portion, and a drawer arrangement 3 configured between the bodies for extending the bodies."
