MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541123272 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 6, 2025, for 'stacked ensemble machine learning system for detecting false data injection attacks in smart grids.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. M. Madiajagan; Ms. Ishita Prakash; Ms. Kaveripakkam Sairam Shanthi Priya; and Ms. Anit George.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a stacked ensemble machine learning system for detecting False Data Injection Attacks in smart grid cyber-physical systems. The system includes a data preprocessing module that receives smart grid operational data and encodes categorical variables into binary format, a class balancing module applying Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique (SMOTE) to generate synthetic samples for minority classes, and a stacked ensemble classifier with Extra Trees and XGBoost as base learners and XGBoost as meta-learner. Base learners generate intermediate predictions from preprocessed data, while the meta-learner combines these predictions to produce final outputs distinguishing normal network behavior from False Data Injection Attacks. The system includes hyperparameter optimization and performance evaluation modules for optimizing and assessing classifier performance metrics."
