MUMBAI, India, July 25 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202421003569 A) filed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Nashik, Maharashtra, on Jan. 18, 2024, for 'split doubler for repair reinforce the damaged skin in inaccessible places.'
Inventor(s) include PS Bharambe; Jagdeesh Babu; and Naveen Chaturvedi.
The application for the patent was published on July 25, under issue no. 30/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Aircraft structures may get damaged due to various reasons such as bird hit, collision with ground vehicles, airport installations, tool-impact etc. These may damage the external skin/panel, internal components or both. External damages can be inspected without provision of any access/ inspection cut out. However, in inaccessible places, to inspect the internal damages, additional access/inspection cut-out may be required. The additional access cut out has to be closed with suitable reinforcement after inspection and repairs regaining lost strength. The invention includes provision of split doubler reinforcing damage from internal side and cover plate on external side to fit flush with the surface of the aircraft skin thus maintaining the aerodynamic contour, smooth airflow and structural integrity of the assembly of inaccessible places.
