MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541124187 A) filed by Sri Krishna College Of Engineering And Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 9, 2025, for 'spilled oil collecting rover for sea surface cleaning.'

Inventor(s) include Dr S Sundararaj; Mr Leninpugalhanthi P; Dr R Ganesh; and Lokeesh B.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention discloses an autonomous, solar-powered spilled oil collecting rover for marine surface cleaning. The system comprises a floating frame equipped with left-hand and right-hand floater assemblies ensuring buoyancy. An oleophilic-hydrophobic sponge conveyor selectively absorbs oil from the sea surface, while a roller compression assembly-including top, bottom, and auxiliary rollers-mechanically extracts absorbed oil and transfers it into a sealed storage tank. A level sensor continuously monitors oil accumulation and communicates with an electronic control unit to prevent overflow. The conveyor system is supported by a belt housing, tensioner assembly, gear drive, and clutch for controlled operation. A solar panel with a battery compartment enables continuous renewable-energy-based functioning. The invention provides a compact, sustainable, and self-operating device capable of continuous oil spill recovery with minimal human intervention, thereby enhancing marine environmental protection through a re-usable, automated, and energy-efficient rover."
