MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631043096 A) filed by Narula Institute Of Technology, Kolkata, West Bengal, on April 4, for 'speech a stand-alone ear-based wearable system for sign language detection synthesis.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a lightweight, stand-alone, single-ear wearable device for real-time sign language detection and speech synthesis. Integrating a miniaturized forward-facing camera and an onboard AI/ML engine, the device captures hand gestures, performs landmark detection, and classifies gestures locally using edge computing principles. The recognized gestures are instantly converted into audible speech through an integrated text-to-speech module and acoustic driver. By eliminating dependency on smartphones and cloud processing, the invention provides a low-latency, private, and portable communication solution that enhances independence for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in social, professional, and emergency environments."
