MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541123084 A) filed by Kg Reddy College Of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad, Telangana, on Dec. 6, 2025, for 'smartcropbot: an intelligent robotic system for potato leaf disease detection and removal.'

Inventor(s) include Mr. Vijaya Bhasker Reddy; Dr. M. N Narsaiah; Dr. Angotu Saida; Mr. A. Sai Chander; Mrs. K Kalpana; Mrs. P Shirisha; Mrs. Swathi P; Dr. Vandana Rao; Mrs. G Lakshmi Bhavani; and Miss. Nalam Kaveri.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Smartcropbot: an intelligent robotic system for potato leaf disease detection and removal is the proposed invention. The proposed automated potato plant disease detection and removal system effectively integrates AI, IoT, and robotics to provide an intelligent solution for modern agriculture. By leveraging a Haar cascade-like approach for disease classification, the system enables real-time identification of infected leaves, reducing crop loss and preventing the spread of diseases. The combination of Raspberry Pi for image processing and Arduino for robotic control ensures seamless execution of tasks, enhancing the overall efficiency of the system. The RC car's mobility allows for extensive field coverage, ensuring that disease monitoring is not limited to a fixed location. The robotic arm precisely plucks infected leaves while minimizing damage to healthy plants, contributing to sustainable farming practices."
