Inventor(s) include Amol Radhakisan Dhumal; Om Goraknath Kamble; Karan Gorakshnath Kambale; Chaitanya Lakshaman Khule; Saurav Santosh Kapkar; Atul Kulkarni; Vaishali A. Patil; Avinash Somatkar; Prashant Anerao; and Chandrashekhar Ramtirthkar.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "This project presents the design and development of a Smart Helical Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) integrated into an electric vehicle (EV) to harness wind energy during vehicle motion for on-the-move power generation. The system utilizes airflow entering through the vehicle's front grille, which is directed through a specially designed duct system toward three compact helical turbines mounted in the frunk region. The helical turbine design ensures smooth, self-starting operation at low wind speeds and provides consistent torque irrespective of wind direction. The generated power is used to supplement the EV's battery, thereby improving overall energy efficiency and extending driving range. To enhance performance, a smart control unit is integrated to monitor airflow velocity, turbine RPM, and power output using embedded sensors and a microcontroller-based system. The duct is designed aerodynamically using SolidWorks and simulated in ANSYS to optimize airflow pressure and minimize drag losses. The project aims to contribute toward sustainable mobility solutions by combining renewable energy generation with advanced aerodynamic design for electric vehicles."
