MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641043522 A) filed by Hindusthan College Of Engineering And Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on April 6, for 'smart tiling based multi face attendance system with integrated curriculum management.'
Inventor(s) include B. Reena; Dr. S. Shankar; Dr. N. J. R. Muniraj; Guhan S; Giri R S; Giriprasanth K; Arjun P; Cathrin J; Crista Sahaya Jospin S; Francleena C J; and Mercy W.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention provides a system and method for marking attendance of multiple persons from a single group photograph captured by a mobile device. The photograph is divided into four overlapping quadrants arranged in a 2x2 grid with configurable vertical and horizontal overlap. Each quadrant is processed independently through an anchor-free face detection neural network, and the resulting bounding boxes and landmarks are remapped to the original coordinate space. Non-maximum suppression eliminates duplicate detections from overlap regions. Each detected face is aligned, encoded into a 512-dimensional embedding vector using a deep metric learning model, and matched against pre-enrolled profiles via cosine similarity. The attendance output is directly linked to an integrated academic management platform comprising administration, authentication, marks computation, task management, and resource distribution modules operating on a shared relational database."
