MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641020791 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 23, for 'smart therapeutic strap helmet for tmj relaxation and bruxism prevention.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Vignesh Srinivasan; Dr. Susanna Thomas; and Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.
The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a Smart Therapeutic Strap-Helmet that is designed to support TMJ relaxation, reduce muscular tension, and prevent bruxism by combining adjustable compression straps, cushioned pressure pads, and a tension-sensing module in a unique manner. The device is worn on the head and Jaw as a soft strap-helmet that provides sustained yet comfortable stabilization of the masseter and temporalis muscles. The integrated smart sensor detects abnormal tightening or clenching behaviors and provides a gentle vibrational cue to interrupt involuntary bruxism patterns. The strap-helmet was designed to be lightweight and portable and was not burdened by any mobile or EMGbased connections. This makes it ideal for both clinical use and home therapy. The system aligns the jaw properly, distributes controlled pressure to hyperactive muscles, and encourages neuromuscular relaxation during sleep, during episodes of stress, or during therapeutic sessions. This invention enhances patient compliance, reduces nighttime grinding episodes, and helps manage TMJ disorders without the need for medication or invasive procedures."
