MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631009742 A) filed by Kalinga Institute Of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneswar, Orissa, on Jan. 30, for 'smart stethoscope with detachable magnetic docking ecg electrodes.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a smart stethoscope apparatus that includes a chest piece configured to capture acoustic heart sounds from a patient, the chest piece having an acoustic sensor. The apparatus includes a plurality of detachable ECG electrodes configured to record cardiac electrical activity from the patient, each detachable ECG electrode being removable from and attachable to the chest piece. A magnetic docking mechanism has magnetic contacts disposed on the chest piece and corresponding magnetic contacts disposed on each of the plurality of detachable ECG electrodes, the magnetic docking mechanism enabling secure yet releasable attachment of the detachable ECG electrodes to the chest piece, wherein the detachable ECG electrodes are repositionable at various anatomical locations for multi-lead ECG acquisition. Acoustic tubing is connected to the chest piece and extends to ear pieces for delivering the acoustic heart sounds to a clinician."
