MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541132921 A) filed by R. M. K. Engineering College, Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 29, 2025, for 'smart spoilage detection and prevention system for perishable goods using sensor networks and ai-based analytics.'

Inventor(s) include C. Geetha; T. Sethukarasi; Rithuparan P S; and R Harshavardhan.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Food spoilage is a major issue in the food industry since it can cause not only food waste and financial losses, but also health risks. As a result, early detection of food deterioration is critical and can significantly help ensure food safety, save financial losses, and retain consumer confidence. The objective of the present invention is to provide a spoilage detection and prevention system which forecasts spoilage in perishable goods before it occurs, thereby optimizing stock rotation and preventing inventory losses."
