MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641049389 A) filed by J. J. College Of Engineering And Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, on April 17, for 'smart solar window shade mechanism.'

Inventor(s) include M. A. Amarnath; Dr. T. Mohandas; K. Kokulvani; and P. Jermia Arockia Pravin.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A window blind that uses solar energy to run automatically is a feature of a Smart Solar Window Shade Mechanism. A solar panel in the system generates electricity from sunshine, which drives a motorized mechanism that opens and closes the blinds. The blinds automatically open during the day to let sunlight warm the building's interior; at night, they close to provide a thermal shield that helps the room retain heat and use less electricity."
