MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641007656 A) filed by S. Ramalakshmi, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on Jan. 27, for 'smart seal integrity detection system for food packaging machine.'

Inventor(s) include S. Soundarya.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Food packaging seal integrity plays a critical role in ensuring product safety, shelf life, and consumer trust. Defective seals can lead to contamination, leakage, and economic losses in the food industry. This project presents a Smart Seal Integrity Detection System for Food Packaging Material, which integrates sensor-based inspection and vision-based analysis to detect seal defects in real time. The proposed system uses an Arduino Uno to interface with a temperature sensor (LM35) and a pressure sensing unit (HX711 with load cell) to monitor thermal and mechanical parameters during the sealing process. A Mini USB webcam and ESP32-CAM module are employed to capture images of the sealed region. These images are analyzed using a mobile application, where seal quality is evaluated using camera-based inspection techniques to identify defects such as incomplete seals, weak bonding, or misalignment. Visual indicators using green and red LEDs and an audible buzzer provide instant feedback on seal status, while a servo motor enables automated rejection or sorting of defective packages. Wireless communication is achieved using the ESP8266 (NodeMCU) module, enabling data transfer between the hardware system and the mobile application. A logic level converter ensures safe voltage compatibility between different modules. The proposed system offers a low-cost, scalable, and Industry 4.0-oriented solution, making it suitable for small- and medium-scale food packaging industries. By combining sensor data with mobile vision inspection, the system improves packaging quality, reduces manual inspection errors, and enhances overall process efficiency."
