MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631032112 A) filed by Narula Institute Of Technology, Kolkata, West Bengal, on March 17, for 'smart safety helmet for electrical workers.'

Inventor(s) include Kamalika Banerjee; Maitrayee Chakrabarty; Neepa Biswas; Sarbani Ganguly; Swayambrata Sarkar; Somanjan Pachal; Gourab Mahapatra; Sudip Mandal; and Amit Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A smart safety helmet for electrical workers comprises an integrated wearable system designed for the active monitoring of electrical, thermal, and chemical hazards in industrial environments. The helmet includes a microcontroller-based control unit, an electrical proximity sensor for detecting live conductors, and environmental sensors for identifying hazardous gases and abnormal temperature rises. By comparing real-time sensor data against predefined safety thresholds, the system provides immediate audible and visual alerts to the wearer upon detection of unsafe conditions. An optional wireless communication module enables the transmission of emergency data to a remote monitoring center. The device is powered by a rechargeable battery and is optimized for low-power, continuous operation, thereby enhancing situational awareness and providing a proactive safety layer beyond traditional passive protective equipment."
