MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541084726 A) filed by Shreekanth Mooroor Prabhu; Shilpa S B; and Cambridge Institute Of Technology, Bangalore, Karnataka, on Sept. 6, 2025, for 'smart pantry with the perishable item tracking.'

Inventor(s) include Shreekanth Mooroor Prabhu; and Shilpa S B.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Traditional refrigerators do not provide users with a convenient way to track grocery inventory/spoilage when shopping, often resulting in forgotten or duplicate purchases. The present invention introduces a smart pantry system equipped with sensors to monitor food items and display their availability through a detachable tab. The tab, which shows categorized items with color-coded indicators, can be removed and carried by the user to the supermarket, providing real-time reference to household inventory. Data collected by the smart pantry sensors is transmitted to a local hub and synchronized with a cloud platform, ensuring that the detachable tab remains updated. This system reduces food waste, improves grocery planning, and enhances user convenience by integrating everyday appliances into a smart, connected ecosystem."
