MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641009356 A) filed by KKR & KSR Institute of Technology and Sciences, Vatticherukuru, Andhra Pradesh, on Jan. 29, for 'smart mine alert: a sensor-based safety system for miners.'
Inventor(s) include Mr. N Ranga Reddy; Ms. L. Ramani; Ms. V. Nissi Mouna Priya; Ms. M. Venkata Lakshmi Jahnavi; Ms. K. Poojitha Sree; and Ms. M. Pooja Sree.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Mining is a dangerous occupation because workers are exposed to poisonous gases, high temperatures, fire accidents, and sudden rock falls. Many accidents occur due to the absence of proper safety monitoring and delayed alerts. The smart jacket is fitted with sensors such as a gas sensor to detect harmful gases, temperature and humidity sensors to monitor environmental conditions, a vibration sensor to sense accidents or rock falls, and a GPS/RF module to track the location of workers inside the mine. The sensor data is continuously monitored and transmitted to a control unit for real-time observation. If unsafe conditions are detected, alert messages are generated immediately to warn the workers and mine authorities. This system helps in reducing accidents, locating lost workers quickly, and improving overall safety in mines. The proposed smart jacket provides a low-cost and effective solution for protecting mine workers and creating a safer working environment."
