MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611002044 A) filed by Chandigarh University, Mohali, Punjab, on Jan. 8, for 'smart lpg leak detection system with automatic valve closure and gsm alerting mechanism.'
Inventor(s) include Abhishek Kumar; Rohit Soni; and Jyoti.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a smart LPG leak detection system that improves domestic gas safety by combining real-time detection, automatic prevention, and communication in a compact device. An LPG gas sensor continuously monitors air near the cylinder to identify leakage conditions. When gas concentration exceeds a pre-set safety threshold, a microcontroller triggers a servo motor to automatically close the cylinder or regulator valve, preventing further gas release. Simultaneously, a GSM module sends SMS alerts to the user and predefined emergency contacts, enabling rapid response without internet access. Local safety is enhanced through an integrated buzzer and LED indicators providing immediate on-site warnings. The system also maintains an internal log of leak events for monitoring and safety analysis. The device is operated through an AC power source with an integrated battery backup, thereby ensuring continuous functionality during power interruptions and enabling reliable operation in urban household environments."
