MUMBAI, India, Jan. 8 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511104635 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Oct. 30, 2025, for 'smart irrigation system using 555-timer integrated circuit for automated soil moisture-based water flow control.'
Inventor(s) include V Janardhan Reddy; Gunavardhan Yakkanti; Pankaj Shilu; Minesh Vohra; Anil B Ghubade; Dr. Amit Kumar Thakur; and Dr. Sudhanshu Dogra.
The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "SMART IRRIGATION SYSTEM USING 555-TIMER INTEGRATED CIRCUIT FOR AUTOMATED SOIL MOISTURE-BASED WATER FLOW CONTROL sensor (104), a relay module (106), a water pump (108), and an LED indicator (110) is disclosed. The soil moisture sensor (104) detects real-time soil moisture and outputs a voltage signal to the IC (102). When soil dryness is detected, the IC (102) triggers the relay module (106) to activate the water pump (108), irrigating the soil while illuminating the LED (110) to indicate operation. When soil moisture exceeds a preset threshold, the IC (102) deactivates the relay (106) and pump (108), conserving water. The system (100) offers automated, efficient, and energy-conscious irrigation for agriculture and urban landscapes, minimizing water wastage, reducing manual labor, and providing a simple and affordable smart irrigation solution."
